derya akay ↗ is a southern anatolian artist born in turkey in 1988. they live, work, learn & garden on the unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sk̲wx̲wú7mesh and səlí̓lwətaʔɬ nations since 2005. derya has been collaborating on gardening & gardening related food projects in their practice and has been working with vivienne, garden didn’t care, mt pleasant neighbourhood house, and elisabeth rogers community garden for this project. salem, cristian, vivienne and derya have been working on this website together. derya enjoys dumpster diving, then cooking for large groups of people; writing to learn; hacking; nerding out on code; alley walks & weeds & daydreaming. their's recent exhibitions include "meydan" at polygon gallery, north vancouver (2021); "contact traces" at the wattis institute, san francisco (2021); and "the neighbour’s plate" with dana qaddah and amna elnour at unit 17, vancouver (2020).
